Dense rainforest, swamps, mangroves, rivers, mountains - and no roads: This is the Darién, one of the world's most biodiverse rainforest areas between Panama and Colombia. The Darién National Park has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1981. Even the Panamericana, the famous intercontinental highway from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego, takes a break here. Only 110 kilometers are missing to close its gap in the Darién, but nature has so far successfully resisted this: the terrain is too mountainous and rich in water, the investment required is too high - and the number of opponents to this road construction project, which has often been announced but fortunately never actually started, is too great. That is why the Daríen is and will hopefully remain as it is. Travel to the Panamanian part of the Darién without a highway. For five days, you will experience a fascinating world of flora and fauna, far away from civilization.
